Perfectly Poached Pears

  • Serves 6
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice
  • 6 ripe Pears
  • 1 cup white grape juice
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • Brahm’s Claret Wine Syrup

Combine water with lemon juice in a 4 quart saucepan and set aside. Using a apple corer or melon baller, remove the core from the pear starting at the blossom end while leaving the stems intact. Peel pears and dip into lemon water to prevent discoloration. Set pears aside. Add grape juice, sugar and vanilla to lemon water. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Add pears, cover and simmer over medium heat for 10-15 minutes or until tender, gently turn pears once or twice during that time. Remove from heat and when cool place into the refrigerator plates and spoon on Brahm’s Claret Wine Syrup.
